Updated: Nov 20, 2024

Outdoor Classroom Day is a worldwide initiative encouraging schools to take learning outdoors. Taking place twice a year, in May and November, the event promotes happiness, health, and skill-building by connecting children with nature. Since its start in 2012, it has engaged over 100,000 schools in 180 countries. Students participating in Outdoor Classroom Day enjoy a variety of activities, from academic subjects like English and math to more hands-on experiences like making fires, identifying bugs, and caring for animals. The program also emphasizes the mental health benefits of being outdoors, such as feeling calmer and more productive. Teachers and students alike praise the flexibility and creativity this type of learning provides, proving that education doesn’t always have to happen within four walls.
